What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a form of deep relaxation and focused awareness.

The hypnotist acts as your teacher, using hypnosis to bring about changes in thinking and behavior. The American Medical Association approved the use of hypnosis fifty years ago.

What does a hypnotist do?

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis. The hypnotist merely guides you through the process. With practice, you should be able to learn to relax and make positive suggestions to yourself.

What is it like to be hypnotized?

It is less mysterious than popular media would suggest. Rather than a weird somnolent trance, hypnosis is more like being absorbed in a book or movie.

What is hypnosis used for?

Hypnosis can reduce anxiety, fear, stress and pain –without the use of drugs.

Hypnosis has helped people who want to quit smoking or stop overeating, two risk factors for heart disease. It can help people control arthritis pain, diabetes, migraine headaches, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, side effects of cancer treatments, stomach ulcers, skin conditions, addictions and many other conditions.

Pregnant women may use hypnosis to control morning sickness and reduce discomfort

during the birthing process.

Will I do something against my will?

No one can make you to do anything against your will when you are hypnotized. You are always in control. You will only accept suggestions that would be beneficial to you.

Nothing magical exists between the hypnotized subject and the person guiding the self-hypnotic relaxation experience.

Hypnosis for some conditions may require a written referral from your doctor.
